Reasons why charging at domestic wall outlets is not a good idea!
This should be completely avoided. Charging an electric vehicle at domestic electrical outlet is not only hazardous, slower but also not economical - in opposite to what a new EV driver might think. In fact, this direct charging from wall outlet is legally forbidden in many parts of the world.
Here are explained reasons why charging at domestic wall outlets is not a good idea!
WALL SOCKETS AREN’T SAFE:
Wall sockets have different temperature withstanding capacities; unless one is a qualified electrician, it is not possible to identify these safe operating temperature ranges.
There is a high chance for a thermal runaway if the socket delivers high power at high temperature for a continuous hour and in the worst-case scenario, the wires connected can fully burn.
EMERGENCY CHARGING ONLY WITH PROTECTEDEQUIPMENT:
Even when you want to use these ‘emergency charging’ Mode-2 cables, one should always consult with a qualified electrician to test and verify the socket-outlet one considers. It is necessary that the chosen electrical outlet must be wired from a circuit breaker (protection equipment) installed at the household’s electrical meter cabinet wiring.
It is important to get a dedicated charging station for home – which can deliver power up to 22 KW. Even if one buys a medium-speed 11 KW home charger, the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range can finish charging at 5 hours – which would be perfect for overnight charging.
HOW MUCH WILL THE WALL SOCKET BE ABLE TO DELIVER:
With the increasing demand, there are going to be more EVs in every street and if they all are plugged-in for charging simultaneously in an uncontrolled way, they would increase ‘peak demand’ on the grid, contributing to overloading.
So it will become a necessity to balance household electricity consumption, especially during peak hours. It will be only through smart charging systems, one will be able to charge. The EV owners will end up going to the nearest charging station during peak hours!
MARKED UNSAFEDURING RAIN:
EVs are powered by an electric motor instead of an IC engine. The battery that powers the motor is charged with a dedicated plug-in cord that connects it to a charging station. The charging equipment is designed to be insulated and water proof and undergoes testing for almost any weather condition.
Charging in a wall socket is not only dangerous and hazardous to us but also to the life of the battery of the Electric Vehicle. The life span of the battery immediately reduces by a minimum of six months. Hence, to have a long survival of the vehicle and its battery, it is advisable to charge it via a charging station.
SPECIAL RATES FOREV CHARGING:
By applying for a green meter with the MSEB and then after the charging station is installed there are other subsidies and rebates which one can avail.
By offering unmanned, smart digital solution to the society buildings right at their doorstep.
LET THE CONSUMER DECIDE:
Policymakers can take the horse to the water, but they can’t make it drink. Finally, the consumer has to decide what they wish to buy. Of course the stakes are risky and hazardous, the consumer will decide her or his green-economic equation and opt for the most aligned option for charging and we as goEgo Network is ready to help for that.
